Washington DC Wedding | Capitol Hill Wedding | Maggie + Zach

Maggie + Zach had the most gorgeous wedding on Capitol Hill in DC. Maggie’s mom and dad live in my old neighborhood in Bowie, so I have known them since Maggie was younger.  I love that I get to document weddings of families that I know and feel like I am a part of their life stories.  Maggie’s dress was stunning on her – it had delicate cap sleeves and a gorgeous bow on the back!

Their ceremony took place at St Joseph’s Catholic Church on Capitol Hill, which has a rich history. In 1868, when the country had just finished the Civil War, St. Joseph’s was founded by a group of German immigrants. A reported crowd of 20,000 people, including President Andrew Johnson, walked past the Capitol and down the street to lay the cornerstone of the church, which was designed to look similar to the cathedral in Cologne, Germany. It has been a staple for catholics on Capitol Hill for decades.

After their ceremony – we went to Union Station and took some gorgeous shots of them outside as well as inside the beautiful atrium.

Their reception venue was at the top of 101 Constitution Avenue overlooking the capitol building. It was stunningly gorgeous! There is a rotunda at the top of the building with 360 degree open air patio views of Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenues. The large sliding doors open in good weather to extend the space and give your guests a towering view. It is very DC! I loved the open air feel of the room and the feel of intimacy at the same time. Washington DC weddings can be so glorious and this one did not disappoint! Kristi + Missy from Glow Weddings and Events were their coordinators and made sure everything went perfect and flawless!
